Bangalore Hash House Harriers
28 years and still running... Its the Bangalore chapter of the drinking club with a running problem. We run on (almost) once a month somewhere in the countryside 20-50 km from the centre of town and occasionally indulge in outstation runs and Hash events. |
Run 680 – Humping Up and Humping Down
|
On 29th July 2018
After the amazing prelube to this run at Arbor Breweries on 11th July, hashers were agog, waiting for this run to happen, with the inviting pictures of a virgin and completely unspoilt location, after this was postponed from its original date of 15th July because of clashing sports activities. Come 29th July, and these expectations were more than completely met when 73 hashers trundled into the run location at Laxmi Farms near Manchinbelle dam. Nestled amongst quiet hills with a rustic feel with traditional Kannadiga setup, first time farm visitors had a lot to explore at the place. Flamethrower, Dude, Lost Screw and Dr Suresh phoned in a couple of hours before run start to say they were joining. So did Dr Dinesh, and several others who added to the merry group which had 10-15 virgins. The Ulsoor Underdogs were the last to arrive because Bunny Kaur and her friends played truant arriving late at the pickup point. On the other hand the BTM bandits, were the first to arrive, followed closely by the Cox town Colts and RT Nagar Rangers – a total of 5 hash transport vehicles brought in 38 or 50% of the hashers to the run site and back home safely! The pre-run camaraderie was sprinkled with old hashers meeting together the first time, Upgraded Internations member Lamiya, meeting hasher friends, Polish Bum throwing his weight around like a bull in a china shop, and the horrors just scampering around. And the virgins just soaking the interesting new experience. Veterans Raw Sex and Half moon were also sighted! The hares had laid two sets of trails one for walkers and the others to challenge anyone who could climb. The run started around 4:15 p.m. and took us through an interesting loop around the hill adjacent to the farm with nice views of the countryside. The hares OFB, Ravishankar (later named Erecther at the circle), Harish, Yashas and Kotresh. The countryside was nice and green and lead to the climb of another steep hill, at whose summit, we had a breathtaking view of Manchinbelle dam, Savantdurga hill and the rest of the countryside. Cybers group pictures and tons of selfies by hashers, and we meandered down into a valley to a tender coconut waterstop and thereafter a short walk back to the run site. The group then let aching muscles relax and charged up with hash beer, juices and cold drinks with a choice of great kebabs and Dhabelis and jalebis. The circle commenced with the naming of the run while the hares were approriatlely placed on ice followed by the host Janardhan too who we raised a toast to. The circle was an interesting discovery of the virgin Harriettes – Lamiya, Dr Sangamitra, Shatabdi, Jayanthi, Jayshri, Priya.. and more.. discovering what they each did while the Hashers were herded together and introduced in one name uttering session. Rajinder was named Flash Dick for his skills using the camera while Ravishankar the hiker and event manager was named ErectHer. Cybers daughters Josea and Joya achieving birthday milestones of Sweet 16 and sweeter 14 respectively, were iced appropriately along with virgin Lamiya whose birthday was also the next day. The latter lady vamoosed citing other important engagements – we shall ice her next time – given that she even took away her birthday cake ! Then came the short acts by the Ulsoor Underdogs lead by Organ Raiser which was a riot of a laugh and followed by the Invisible Man act by RT Nagar Rangers. Incidentally, the Ulsoor Underdogs have clicked so well, that they have renamed themselves as Ulsoor Neech Kutte and are hell bent on being more neecher than the other. The circle ended with ex GM Dude leading the hash hymn and hashers enjoyed the rest of the stay – buying trash or feasting on the extras of veg and non veg Biryani and more snacks or with the hash bar with scotch and vodka. The end of a lovely evening came and hashers rolled back home. GM stayed back with the host for a short while and got hosted with home cooked mutton liver fry and mackerel fish fry – small perks! Announcing Run 681, the Ball Breaker which will be even more fun at the scenic Soma Vineyards. Sign up now. Acknowledgements : While the trail could have had more variations, due credit to OFB for the painstaking multiple recces that he did personally and several times with Kotresh and Ravishankar, that helped bring out part of the beauty of this location, that everyone enjoyed. Expect a repeat event her after about 6 months. For the efforts put in, OFB was given a Prestige Microwave pressure cooker post run, and Kotresh is awarded 5 beers for so ably supporting him. Thanks to Radhika for sourcing the snacks for the vegetarians. Thanks to Janardhan, for hosting hashers at an unspoilt location. Thanks to BH3 hashers for the enthusiastic turnout – that we ran out of beer completely! Thanks to those who used the hash transport – safe, secure and ensuring a happy journey – they get the first right to the free beer being given at the next run. Collect the beer tokens on registration itself at Run 681. Ulsoor Underdogs with ring master Organ Raiser for the excellent circle act and Jayakar and his RT Nagar Rangers for their act. We will have more of these in the coming runs.
